Kiln

1.Rotary Kiln

Rotary Kiln

Rotary Kiln is a kind of thermal equipment calcines lump, bulk and slurry materials. It is widely used in cement & construction, non-ferrous metals, lime, ferrous metals, refractory materials, industrial chemicals, paper making industries etc.

According to the material types to be processed, rotary kiln can be divided into cement kiln, metallurgical chemistry kiln and limestone kiln.

The kiln is a cylindrical vessel, inclined slightly to the horizontal, which is rotated slowly about its axis. The material to be processed is fed into the upper end of the cylinder. As the kiln rotates, material gradually moves down towards the lower end, and may undergo a certain amount of stirring and mixing. Hot gases pass along the kiln, usually in the opposite direction (counter-current). The hot gases may be generated in an external furnace, or may be generated by a flame inside the kiln. Such a flame is projected from a burner-pipe which acts like a large Bunsen burner. The fuel for this may be gas, oil, pulverized petroleum coke or pulverized coal.

2.Vertical Shaft Kiln

Vertical Shaft Kiln

Vertical shaft kilns have among others the advantage of low investment profile and hence very suitable for small and medium scale processing of various solid minerals such as limestone and refractory. The low investment profile therefore makes it attractive in developing countries where sources of investment capital are lean. Vertical kilns however are plagued with a number of operational problems such as channeling, stratification, hanging accident, poor heat distribution among others. This work investigated the effects of burner types, firing rate and degree of draft on the vertical kiln temperature profile and hence the efficiency of the kiln.  Numerous fuels such as coke, coal, gas, oil, as well as other alternative fuels are combusted using different types of burner or charging systems.

Material traveling slowly in the kiln. All the material get fused here. After passing through the burning zoon the material start cooling slowly. The clinkerisation start and clinker finally comes out of the kiln.

Advantages

  • Different plant sizes available
  • Use of alternative fuels like low volatile coal, petroleum coke, lignite etc.
  • Use of alternate raw materials like bauxite, laterite, iron ore, Lime, Sea Shells etc.
  • Better Kiln design to prevent radiation loss.
  • Fuel efficient technology.
  • Low capital Investment.
  • Easy management.
  • Smaller site area.
  • Clean production
